Republican David Smith has announced the endorsements from three Seminole County city commissioners Thursday in his quest to be elected to Florida’s House District 28.

Oviedo City Commissioner and Deputy Vice-Mayor Steve Henken, Oviedo Commissioner Bob Pollack, and Winter Springs Commissioner Geoff Kendrick all threw their support behind Smith.

Smith, a business consultant and retired U.S. Marines Corps colonel from Winter Springs, faces Democratic businessman Lee Mangold of Casselberry in the contest to succeed state Rep. Jason Brodeur, who is not seeking re-election.

“David is clearly the leader Florida needs in the Legislature,” Henken stated in a news release issued by Smith’s campaign. “A man that has led our troops in the U.S. Marine Corps with honor and distinction for many years. He will be a voice of experience to lead us in the Florida House. Great days are ahead for Florida and David will ensure we see them. It is an honor to endorse my friend, David Smith for the Florida House.”

Pollack said, “It is my privilege to endorse David Smith for Florida House of Representatives District 28. His military experience serving our country will benefit the citizens of Central Florida when he is elected.

And Kendrick stated, “Colonel David Smith served our nation as a United States Marine with valor and I’m proud to support his candidacy for Florida House District 28. David’s leadership skills, incredible work ethic and dedication to service fully embodies the very best of what we can all hope for in our elected representatives.”

Smith also announced a fundraising reception for Monday at 5 p.m. at Francesco’s Restaurant & Pizzeria in Maitland.
